Not sure how many of you are aware but "World Prematurity Day" is observed on November 17th each year to raise awareness of preterm birth and the concerns of preterm babies and their families worldwide. Approximately 15 million babies are born preterm each year, accounting for about one in 10 of all babies born worldwide.
It wasn't until I met a friend early this year, that I began to understand just a little in regard to what preemies and their families go through. It's amazing how these little warriors literally fight for their lives. Some make it and unfortunately, some do not. This year, I decided to dedicate a special setup to preemies in celebration of life.
A lot of preemies don't have the usual newborn photographs since they spend a lot of their first months on earth in the NICU. Their mothers also don't always get to take maternity photographs since they usually go into labor much earlier than expected. This was a special setup just for them because they are warriors and because they deserve to be celebrated daily! Enjoy some of my favorites from a session with two beautiful girls who have been friends since their NICU days.
I leave my preemie moms with some words of encouragement, "The strength and persistence of a premature baby fighting for life is unwavering, as is your love for them. Hope for a miracle, believe in miracles and hold onto your miracle tightly." - Julia Toivonen
